Review of Journey of the Pharaohs by Clive Cussler & Graham Brown
Quick Take:
This is exactly what you want from an adventure novel—fast, fun, and addictive. I genuinely didn’t want to put it down. Reading 50 pages a day didn’t feel like enough.
What It’s About
Set in the world of the NUMA Files, the story follows Kurt Austin and his team as they investigate a series of mysterious disappearances tied to a long-lost Egyptian expedition. What starts as a search-and-rescue mission quickly turns into a high-stakes global adventure involving ancient secrets, advanced technology, and a powerful enemy working behind the scenes.
What Worked
1. Pacing & Action
This book moves. There’s always something happening—chases, discoveries, twists—and it keeps you locked in the entire time.
It’s the kind of story where you tell yourself “just one more chapter”… and then you’re still reading an hour later.
2. Adventure Factor
This is classic Clive Cussler energy.
You get that perfect mix of ancient history and modern tech, all wrapped in a globe-spanning adventure. It never feels slow or overly complicated—it just keeps delivering.
3. Readability
Super easy to read.
There’s no heavy, dense exposition slowing things down—you can just fall into the story and enjoy the ride. Honestly, that’s a huge plus.
What Didn’t Work (for Me)
1. Characters
The characters are solid and likable, but they’re not especially deep.
You’re here more for the adventure than for strong emotional connection—and that’s fine, but it does limit how invested you get.
2. Predictability (at times)
There are moments where you can see where things are going.
It didn’t take away from the experience for me, but it’s definitely something to note.
⭐ Score: 8.5/10

Final Take
This is a straight-up fun adventure novel.
If you enjoy fast-paced stories, treasure-hunt vibes, and that mix of history and modern action, you’ll probably have a great time with this one.
It’s not trying to be overly deep—it’s trying to entertain—and it absolutely delivers.
